Cheese-lovers and cheese-makers will come together at Portside Wharf on Sunday, September 9 to celebrate Queensland’s largest cheese festival, The Brisbane Cheese Awards (BCA).

Thousands of fromage fanatics are expected to descend on the riverside dining precinct, Portside Wharf, as artisan cheese producers from around Australia put their best cheese forward at the Brisbane event.

Be it blue, brie or the best cheddars in the country, there will be something to suit every palate as thousands of dollars worth of free cheese is tasted amidst a host of other entertainment including master classes from some of the best in the business.

Internationally recognised cheese expert, author and TV personality Will Studd will be hosting education sessions, and beer writer and educator Matt Kirkegaard will be there to teach participants that cheese and beer is the perfect match.

BCA President Michael Dalton says event space has doubled this year along the riverfront at Portside Wharf, Brisbane, in anticipation of another highly successful festival.

“The festival has gone from strength to strength, last year attracting several thousand people to the fabulous Portside Wharf,” he said.

“The event is the largest and most successful cheese festival in Australia and has become one of the most prestigious food events on the Brisbane food calendar.

“Queenslanders are the largest consumers of cheese in Australia and we have some of the best boutique dairies in the country.

“The success of these awards are a testament to our love for cheese and our ability to produce cheeses that match some of the best in the world.”

A masterclass hosted by Matt Kirkegaard, one of the leading independent beer educators in the country, will also teach guests the art of matching cheese with beer, while Australian cheese specialist Will Studd will present a master class.

A judging panel of 24 industry experts, food writers and top chefs will sample nearly 200 artisan cheeses in ten categories including Best Queensland Cheese, the Lord Mayor’s Cup and the Best Home Cheese Maker Encouragement Award.
