Brisbanites are focusing on fitness like never before according to one industry identity that has seen the numbers attending her studio’s Pilates classes each week double to more than 500 over the past 18 months.

The owners of Studio Pilates International Hamilton at the boutique retail and residential precinct of Portside Wharf, Geoff and Gudrun Oliver, said the fitness surge showed no sign of waning.

The concept of Studio Pilates combines years of Pilates teaching experience and client feedback to create a unique style of Pilates.

The model caught on quickly at the flagship studio at Hawthorne and the same success has been repeated at the Portside Wharf studio.

“We were excited to open the modern Studio Pilates Hamilton in 2013 and bring the same experience to Portside Wharf,” said Mrs Oliver.

“We were quietly confident that we could replicate the same success experienced at Hawthorne and have been extremely thrilled with the support we have received.

“There is a real desire by a large proportion of the Brisbane community to keep fit, eat well and stay healthy.

“The numbers we are seeing at our studios are a reflection of that.”

Studio Pilates Hamilton is currently running 65 classes a week and has seen its weekly numbers grow from 260 clients to 520 a week.

Mrs Oliver said they had the capacity to continue to grow and had plans to expand in 2015, adding pregnancy classes, additional lunchtime classes and low intensity classes.

She said residents of the riverfront community of Portside Wharf and the immediate surrounding area made up the majority of the clients that attended the Hamilton studio.

“There are hundreds of residents living at Portside Wharf  and we  give them the chance to experience a class they will enjoy, remember and hopefully want to experience again,” she said.

“I think the environment here on the Brisbane River is conducive to an active, healthy lifestyle and for many of the residents fitness is a way of life and they want to look after themselves.”

Studio Pilates International Hamilton has no membership fee and new clients can purchase a start up package for $60.00, which includes the orientation workout and five studio Pilates workouts.

Sessions have a maximum of 10 people who are guided by a qualified Pilates instructor who provides technical guidance and motivation.
