Fashionistas looking to get ahead of the trend this season and own a piece of 2000 year old history should go no further than Co Design at the waterfront precinct of Portside Wharf, along the river in Hamilton.

The team behind popular jewellery brand Cotton & Co has been collaborating with a community of jewellery crafters in Israel to create a selection of truly unique and original pieces featuring 2000 year old Roman glass, which has now arrived in-store at Co Design.

Excavated near Jerusalem, Israel – one of the glass capitals of the Roman Empire – the glass dates back as far as 100AD and is some of the finest glass work to ever be produced.

Michael Cotton, manager and owner of Co Design, says the glass has taken on a beautiful patina and gives off a sea green glow after being hidden in the earth for the past 2000 years.

“Each fragment of glass has been textured and coloured by centuries of wind and weather, allowing our team to create some unique and distinctive jewellery pieces,” he said.

“With fashion commentators promoting downsized, pretty jewellery this season, rather than the larger than life pieces of the past few years, our creations are the ideal way to be on trend and still make a statement.”

Michael Cotton, together with business partners Ali Casey and Brent Doughty, opened Co Design and coffee shop Deer Sir earlier this year, bringing together the best of fashion, homewares and coffee under one roof.

The store offers a beautiful mix of old and new jewellery, antiques, furniture, homewares, vintage finds and other interesting treasures, while Deer Sir serves steaming, quality coffee from famous roast house, AllPress Espresso.

Co Design and Deer Sir are the perfect example of the type of the boutique retailers who call Portside Wharf home. The riverfront precinct is renowned as one of Brisbane’s best shopping and dining destinations and boasts more than 30 restaurants and boutique retailers including Urbbana Men’s Style Studio, Ella Bache, Dendy Cinema, Max Brenner, Byblos Bar & Grill, Sono Japanese Restaurant, Belvedere Bar & Grill and Gusto da Gianni.

Portside Wharf is also home to hundreds of residents who live in the luxury riverfront apartments above the precinct.

More retail spaces are available at Portside Wharf and range from 50sqm to 240sqm, to suit a diverse range of businesses, while one, two and three bedroom apartments, many boasting views over the Brisbane River and city, are available in the latest residential stages – Promenade and Pinnacle.
